On this day...

On this day last year, I had a few classes and tried calling Daniel all day to wish him happy birthday, but could never get a hold of him. I had to resort to leaving a Facebook message.
On this day 6 years ago I was in Salzburg, Austria and called Daniel from the phone in the hotel lobby, singing Happy Birthday with Buzz.
On this day 8 years ago, Anna, Buzz and I were at a pay phone on the streets of Rome. We called the church (for it was Sunday and Daniel was at church) and had him come out of class, where we proceeded to sing Happy Birthday to him.
On this day 16 years ago we had a birthday for my youngest brother who was turning 1. The song went like this: "Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday dear....babycarlsonbabynumberninealexseth...Happy Birthday to you!"
On this day 17 years ago, I was sitting in our living room when my mom came out with a bag and went to the door. The following conversation ensued:
Me: "Where are you going?"
Mom: "To the hospital."
Me: "Why?"
Mom: "To have the baby."
Me: "Oh, ok."
And she drove herself to the hospital! Skip ahead a few hours, the younger kids who weren't old enough to go to Young Men/Young Women's were being babysat at Grandma and Grandpa McCubbins'. We were watching TV when the phone rang. The following conversation ensued:
Gramps: "Hello? OH!! So I have a grandson!"
Me: "MOM HAD THE BABY, AND IT'S A BOY!" (For mom never found out what she was having, but we all KNEW it was going to be a boy because the pattern had to be complete! Girl-girl-boy, girl-girl-boy, girl-girl-BOY!)
Finally we got to go to the hospital. Someone brought out this new little brother of mine. The very first thing I did was count his fingers and toes. For some reason I was so scared that he would be missing some! We couldn't go see mom for some time because she was having problems. Whopper Jrs. were the new rage, so Aunt Connie took us to Burger King and got a whole bunch of them. When we took them back to the hospital to eat, Uncle Andy found some surgical gloves and dissected the burgers. I made sure and had him remove my nasty tomatoes! And those are all my memories from March 23, 1994! The day little Dan'l Fan'l was born to complete our family of 11! Love ya "little" bro, The Last of the Mohicarlsons! Happy 17th Birthday!
